Gordon Square

An entry point into literary Bloomsbury and the university streets around it.

Make it part of your day

Use the square to orient yourself among the houses, gardens and institutions of literary Bloomsbury. Appreciate historic residences from the street unless an owner or organiser explicitly offers public entry. The Warburg and Petrie are useful additional stops when open.

A shared afternoon

Six stories. Time to talk.

For 90–120 minutes with a friend, choose six Scenes from the Gordon Square Collection: Polyamory & “Lustiness”; World-Shaping Economics; Lonely, Ugly & Bohemian; Noor Inayat Khan; Tagore vs Dickens & Shakespeare; and The Irvingites. Their displayed listening labels total 21 minutes, leaving most of the outing for moving, looking and conversation.

Start at Gordon Square, follow each Scene’s location in Cobble and use the surrounding streets when the garden is closed. You can stop after two or three. This is a suggested selection, not a field-timed route.
