New to the neighbourhood
Explore Bloomsbury
before and after class.
A first look around UCL, SOAS and Birkbeck, with short stories, free museums and places to return to.
Start by learning the streets between your campus, the squares and your usual station. Cobble’s Collections let you hear a few local stories in any order, so exploring can fit around a lecture or an evening class.
Starting at UCL
Begin around Gower Street and the university quarter. UCL & Neighbours: The Central London Campus ↗ includes Bentham’s Head, Early Women at UCL and London’s Absurd Academic War. Pick two or three for your first outing. Indoor university access may have separate conditions.
Arriving at SOAS
Use Russell Square, Senate House and Gordon Square as landmarks. Introducing Bloomsbury ↗ offers Scenes to choose from, with no fixed route. Begin with Towering Senate House ↗ and follow the nearby suggestions in the app. Use our official programmes guide to find public exhibitions and talks.
Before an evening at Birkbeck
Birkbeck & Its Backdrop ↗ has Scenes about the campus and its surroundings. Choose a couple while you walk towards class. If you arrive earlier in the afternoon, the Petrie and Grant museums offer free visits. Their usual closing time is 17:00, so do not plan them as an evening stop.
A first afternoon without a timetable
Choose Gordon Square for a pause, a bookshop for browsing, or a free museum if it is open. Then look at the cultural calendar for a talk you can actually attend. Check the booking requirements of each event.
What does the audio cost?
Try three Scenes free. A £1.99 24-hour Pass includes Collections and on-location CobbleGo. A £7.99 Monthly Pass includes unlimited CobbleGo on location and Collections, plus up to 20 Cobble Anywhere Scenes remotely per day. Guided Walks are sold separately. Check the current passes ↗.
